Mohammed VI Tower: A Symbol of Modernization
On April 13, 2026, in a momentous ceremony marking the culmination of the extensive development initiative "Rabat – City of Lights," Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan officially inaugurated the "Mohammed VI Tower." This remarkable edifice, situated on the right bank of the Bouregreg River, stands as a new emblem of modernization for the twin cities of Rabat and Salé. The event signifies the successful completion of an eight-year construction phase, spearheaded by the O Capital Group, which aimed to redefine the urban landscape of Morocco's capital.
Architectural Innovation and Sustainability
The Mohammed VI Tower, soaring to a height of 250 meters with its 55 floors, dramatically reshapes the skyline of Rabat. Constructed on a geotechnically challenging site, the tower rests on deep foundations reaching 60 meters, designed specifically to endure potential earthquakes and river flooding. Additionally, an innovative damping system has been installed to minimize sway caused by wind, ensuring stability for the upper levels. The tower encompasses around 100,000 square meters and is serviced by 36 elevators that provide access to its various sections.
Designed as a multifunctional hub, the Mohammed VI Tower houses office spaces, luxurious apartments, a Waldorf Astoria hotel, a conference room, and a library. At its pinnacle, an observation deck offers breathtaking views of the rich cultural heritage of Rabat and Salé.
Crucially, the project adheres to stringent environmental standards, featuring two distinct façade sides: one equipped with photovoltaic panels for energy generation and the other showcasing dynamic lighting. The incorporation of energy recovery systems and rainwater harvesting has earned the tower prestigious LEED Gold and HQE certifications, positioning it as one of the most technologically advanced construction projects on the African continent. This ambitious undertaking is integral to Morocco's strategy for promoting sustainable and integrated urban development.
