Mohammed VI Tower: A Symbol of Progress and Heritage
By the directive of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan officially inaugurated the Mohammed VI Tower on Monday, situated on the picturesque right bank of the Bouregreg River. This innovative architectural marvel serves as a beacon of modernity, embodying the rich heritage and cultural significance of the twin cities of Rabat and Salé. The inauguration reflects the Sovereign’s vision and commitment to enhancing the urban landscape of Morocco's capital.
During the inauguration event, His Royal Highness undertook a comprehensive tour of the Tower, which included a visit to the main lobby. Here, he received an in-depth briefing on the grand structure, examining various samples of Moroccan artisanal materials that highlight the craftsmanship involved in its construction. The tour also encompassed the conference area and the library, showcasing the multifunctional capabilities of the Tower.
Architectural Excellence and Sustainable Development
In addition to these facilities, HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan explored a model apartment, the luxurious Waldorf Astoria Hotel, and the Rabat and Salé Heritage Observatory, located at the top of the Tower. This observatory offers breathtaking views of the historic landscapes of Rabat and Salé, where ancient city walls, kasbahs, and gates narrate the captivating stories of these cities’ pasts.
The Mohammed VI Tower stands at an impressive height of 250 meters, consisting of 55 stories that redefine the skyline of Rabat. It exemplifies a harmonious blend of cutting-edge engineering and graceful design, all while adhering to rigorous environmental standards. This development aligns seamlessly with the Bouregreg Valley project, a crucial component of the integrated development program for Rabat, aptly named “City of Light, Moroccan Capital of Culture,” which has been initiated under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King.
Developed by O Capital Group, the project features a mix of luxury amenities, including a high-end hotel, office spaces, residential units, a heritage observatory, a conference hall, and various shops and restaurants, all efficiently connected by 36 elevators. The Tower is built on robust foundations that extend 60 meters deep, specifically designed to withstand potential earthquakes and flooding from the river, ensuring long-term stability in a challenging geotechnical landscape.
To mitigate the effects of wind and seismic activity, the Tower is equipped with an innovative harmonic damper system, which guarantees comfort and stability for residents inhabiting the upper levels. Additionally, the Tower showcases two striking facades—one featuring dynamic lighting and the other adorned with photovoltaic panels. These design elements reflect best practices in eco-construction and the application of next-generation technologies that significantly enhance energy efficiency, in line with Morocco’s dedication to sustainable development.
Moreover, the Mohammed VI Tower incorporates advanced systems for energy recovery and rainwater harvesting, allowing it to achieve prestigious LEED Gold and HQE certifications. This positions the Tower among the most innovative and high-performance buildings in Africa.
Upon arrival at the venue, HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan was honored by a section of the Royal Guard before being warmly welcomed by several dignitaries, including the Wali of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, Governor of the Rabat Prefecture Mohamed Yacoubi, President of the Regional Council Rachid El Abdi, and other prominent figures from the Salé Prefectural and Communal Councils. Among those present were also the Chairman of O Capital Group, Othman Benjelloun, and other key stakeholders involved in the project, including Dounia Benjelloun, Zakaria El Kaidi, and Jamal Benissa.
