Indian Metlonics Completes Production of Armored Vehicle Hulls in Morocco
In a significant development within the defense sector, the Indian company Metlonics has announced the successful production of 20 hulls for the WhAP 8x8 armored vehicles. These vehicles are being assembled locally by Tata Advanced Systems in Berrechid, Morocco, specifically for the Royal Armed Forces. This announcement follows just a few months after TASL Morocco made its inaugural delivery of five WhAP 8x8 vehicles to the Royal Armed Forces, marking a key milestone in the Indo-Moroccan industrial partnership.
The comprehensive program entails the delivery of a total of 150 WhAP 8x8 vehicles, which are designed for infantry combat. These vehicles will be equipped with the UT30MK2 turret developed by the Israeli firm Elbit Systems. This advanced turret features a 30mm automatic cannon, anti-tank missiles, and sophisticated optronic systems, enhancing the combat capabilities of the Royal Armed Forces.
Initially developed by Tata's defense subsidiary, the locally manufactured WhAP 8x8 is also expected to be available for export, aligning with the project's original objectives as stated during its announcement. This collaboration emphasizes the strengthening ties between India and Morocco in the defense industry, reflecting a growing trend of international partnerships aimed at bolstering national security.
