Influencer Sakina Janah Faces Legal Troubles
Sakina Janah, the Moroccan influencer known by her moniker "Glamour," currently finds herself under scrutiny and remains detained at the Lodaia prison in Marrakech. As reported, she is set to stand trial, with her first court session scheduled for next week. This situation arises from allegations against her for publicly disturbing public morals, a serious charge under Moroccan law.
The Moroccan Penal Code, specifically Article 483, addresses the crime of public indecency, which can lead to imprisonment ranging from one month to two years, alongside fines that can vary between 200 to 500 dirhams. This law encompasses acts such as deliberate nudity or indecent gestures that are witnessed by the public or minors.
Janah's troubles began on August 12, when she was apprehended at Mohammed V Airport while attempting to travel. The National Security statement indicated that the airport security, in coordination with Marrakech authorities, detained her over suspicions of her involvement in creating and disseminating digital content deemed offensive to public morality.
The controversy ignited after she released a video featuring provocative content while dressed in revealing attire. The footage showcased her in a manner that many found inappropriate, and while she could have mitigated the fallout by apologizing or removing the video, she instead contradicted herself in subsequent statements, declaring she would not remove the clip. This stance has seemingly garnered her attention and, according to her, has brought her unexpected success.
