INS Sudarshini's Significant Visit to Casablanca
On April 15, 2026, the Indian Navy's Sail Training Ship, INS Sudarshini, made a noteworthy port call at Casablanca, Morocco, as part of its ongoing transoceanic deployment under the initiative known as Lokayan 26. This significant arrival at one of Morocco's key ports represents a crucial milestone in the ship's expedition, reflecting the Indian Navy's dedicated efforts to enhance maritime engagement. This aligns seamlessly with the overarching vision of MAHASAGAR, which stands for Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across the Region. The visit not only symbolizes the deepening of bilateral relations but also emphasizes the growing naval cooperation between India and Morocco.
Strengthening Maritime Cooperation and Diplomatic Relations
Upon its arrival, the Commanding Officer of INS Sudarshini met with Commodore Hassan Akouli, the Commander of the Central Maritime Sector of the Moroccan Navy, and Commodore Omar Nasri, the Director of the Royal Naval School in Morocco. During their discussions, both parties explored potential avenues for enhancing maritime collaboration and the possibility of conducting training exchanges between their respective navies. Throughout the three-day visit, the crew of INS Sudarshini is set to engage with personnel from the Royal Moroccan Navy, host senior officials and distinguished guests onboard, and partake in various professional and cultural interactions. These activities aim to further solidify naval cooperation, strengthen diplomatic ties, and foster goodwill between the two nations.
This visit not only provides valuable exposure to both the crew and trainees aboard INS Sudarshini but also highlights India's expanding maritime engagements and international outreach capabilities in ocean sailing. Notably, over the past year, four Indian naval ships—INS Tabar, INS Tarkash, INS Sumedha, and INS Tushil—have previously visited Casablanca, significantly enhancing mutual trust and interoperability between the two navies. Additionally, in November 2025, Rear Admiral Mohamed Tahin, the Inspector of the Royal Moroccan Navy, visited the Southern Naval Command of the Indian Navy as part of his official tour to India, further solidifying this cooperative relationship.
As INS Sudarshini continues its voyage across historic sea routes and international maritime corridors, this expedition embodies the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, reinforcing India's commitment to promoting global maritime cooperation and goodwill.
