Intense Competition for Parliamentary Nomination within the Istiqlal Party in Meknes

Political Tensions Rise as Candidates Seek Istiqlal Party Nomination

The political landscape in Meknes is currently witnessing heightened activity within the ranks of the Istiqlal Party as the upcoming legislative elections draw near. Several prominent names are competing fiercely to secure the party's endorsement for the parliamentary elections in the Meknes constituency. Among the frontrunners is Meryem Al-Ansari, who has previously served as a regional parliamentary representative, alongside her father, Abdel Wahid Al-Ansari, whose candidacy seems unlikely due to the conflict between parliamentary membership and the presidency of the region.

Additionally, Hassan Al-Yamani, the head of the Sidi Slimane Mol Kifane municipality and the current parliamentary representative, is also vying for the opportunity to renew his candidacy under the party's banner. The competition has recently intensified with the entry of a third candidate, Hicham Selmani, who has formally requested the party's nomination. Selmani holds the position of the first deputy president of the Fes-Meknes Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services and is considered a significant organizational figure within the party.

Moreover, sources from within the Istiqlal Party indicate that a fourth name has emerged among the potential candidates, namely Osama Al-Ansari, a lawyer and doctor of law, who has served on the party's national council five times and has been a member of the central committee for two consecutive terms. He has progressed through various party structures, from the General Union of Moroccan Students to the Istiqlal Youth Organization.

With the inclusion of these new candidates, the competition is expected to escalate further, leading to a decisive moment for the party's leadership, primarily Secretary-General Nizar Baraka, who will be tasked with selecting the candidate who will represent the party in this pivotal electoral contest.
