The Regional Directorate of Agriculture in the Marrakech-Safi region is currently experiencing significant internal tensions, stemming from allegations made by the regional office of the Democratic Confederation of Labor – National Union of Agriculture. The union has accused the head of the social protection department for farmers of what it describes as "abuse of power" and "arbitrary practices," which have adversely affected the professional atmosphere within the institution.
According to the information provided by the union office, several employees and officials are reportedly living in a state of anxiety and tension due to what they perceive as the mentioned official's threats of administrative transfers to the newly established regional directorate in the province of Youssoufia. The union refers to this action as "malicious transfer," which is allegedly used as a tactic to exert pressure on certain employees and union activists.
Furthermore, the same source noted that these practices have negatively impacted the psychological and social stability of the staff within the directorate. The union claims that the professional environment has become characterized by intimidation and threats rather than dialogue and participatory management.
In a statement, the union office expressed its astonishment at the appointment of the head of the social protection department for farmers to a position of responsibility, considering that he had previously failed to manage other interests within the same directorate, as stated in the announcement. The union members also held the regional director of agriculture responsible for what they termed as the "blessing and support" of the aforementioned official's actions, arguing that the continuation of this situation raises questions about the management of human resources within the regional administration.
The regional union office declared its full solidarity with the employees whom it considers to be affected by these practices and confirmed its readiness to engage in various legitimate forms of protest to defend the workers' rights and uphold their professional dignity.
Moreover, the union office sounded the alarm regarding the potential outcomes of the situation within the regional agriculture directorate in Marrakech-Safi, warning of the repercussions of continuing what they described as a policy of appointing individuals to positions of responsibility without the necessary qualifications for effective management. This could negatively impact the normal functioning of public services and the quality of services provided to the public.
It remains to be seen whether the management of the regional agriculture directorate will break its silence to clarify its position regarding these allegations and respond to the points raised in the union's statement, ensuring transparency and respect for the principle of balance in presenting different viewpoints.
