Strengthening Police Modernization in Morocco
Lucas Philippe, the President of INTERPOL, has publicly praised Morocco for its ongoing commitment to modernizing its police forces under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. This commendation was made during the opening of the Police Open Days expo held in Rabat on Sunday, as reported by Morocco’s Press Agency (MAP). Philippe emphasized that Morocco has made a conscious decision to invest sustainably in enhancing the operational capabilities of its police institution, focusing on areas such as training, technology, and overall working conditions.
Philippe articulated that the effectiveness of a police institution can be evaluated on multiple fronts. It starts internally, fostering pride among those who serve in the police force, and extends outward, influencing citizens through the trust it cultivates. Furthermore, the impact of a well-functioning police force transcends national borders, contributing to the credibility that a country projects on the global stage. He underscored that the Moroccan police (DGSN) is actively working to bolster both its operational and technological capabilities while also seeking to enhance the relationship between law enforcement and the public.
Building Trust and Confidence in Law Enforcement
The INTERPOL President highlighted significant improvements in public confidence towards the police, noting a marked increase in responsiveness and a consistent delivery of public services. Philippe praised the emergence of a results-driven culture within the police force, which emphasizes performance and impact. He pointed to the recently inaugurated police headquarters in Rabat as a testament to this ambition, deeming it a “true mark of confidence in the mission and professionalism” of Morocco’s police force.
Philippe further asserted that INTERPOL shares the perspective that stability, attractiveness, and trust cannot exist without security, and that security is heavily reliant on strong, modern, and recognized police institutions. He concluded his remarks by congratulating the Moroccan police personnel on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the DGSN, extending his best wishes for success as they embark on this promising “new era” in the history of Morocco’s law enforcement.
