Launch of the West Med Line by Messina Line
Messina Line, a prominent Italian shipping company boasting a fleet of 21 vessels and a capacity of 41,000 containers, has unveiled an innovative commercial route known as the West Med Line. This new route facilitates regular departures from Spain and France approximately every ten days, aiming to enhance connectivity and frequency between these regions.
With the introduction of this route, Messina Line is set to integrate its existing services to Algeria and Libya into a single network, offering direct stops at the Spanish ports of Castellón and Barcelona. This strategic reorganization will allow the company to consolidate both services into a rotation through the western Mediterranean, encompassing Spain, France, Italy, Libya, and Algeria.
The standard rotation will commence in Castellón, subsequently making stops in Barcelona, Fos, Genoa, Misurata, and Tripoli, before returning to Castellón. Notably, the Genoa port in Italy will serve as a connecting point for additional destinations, while the port of Misurata in Libya is expected to enhance transit times for goods originating from routes traversing the Suez Canal.
Enhanced Frequency and Connectivity
The inaugural departure for this newly established route is scheduled for this coming Sunday, September 6, with the vessel Libertas H leading the voyage. This will be followed shortly after on September 17 by the Pacific Dalian, marking its 310th journey.
Through this new line, which has been operational since 1921, the Italian shipping company combines the previously separate services to Algeria and Libya into a cohesive circuit, maintaining stops in the Spanish, French, Italian, Libyan, and Algerian markets. According to the company, this reorganization aims to enhance the frequency and connectivity of their network in the western Mediterranean, while also providing connections to destinations serviced through Genoa.
