Enhancing Emergency Response in Fes
The city of Fes is taking significant steps to bolster its emergency response capabilities by approving a partnership agreement aimed at establishing local emergency centers. This initiative, which has a total financial allocation of 40 million dirhams, is designed to enhance the speed and effectiveness of emergency interventions across various neighborhoods in the city. The agreement involves collaboration between multiple entities, including the Fes-Meknes region, the regional council, the Fes provincial council, the city council of Fes, the General Directorate of Civil Protection, and the Development and Rehabilitation Agency of Fes.
The primary objective of this partnership is to improve rescue services and expand the coverage of emergency interventions related to fires, natural disasters, and other urgent situations. As part of this project, an emergency response center will be established in the Saïs district, along with the creation of two local centers within the historic old town of Fes. This strategic placement is particularly important as the old town is characterized by high population density and unique architectural features, making it more susceptible to fire hazards and building collapses.
The funding for this ambitious project was approved during a special session held by the city council last Tuesday. Of the total budget, 14 million dirhams will be allocated for the establishment of the Saïs center, while 26 million dirhams will be dedicated to creating the two local centers within the old city. Contributions from various partners involved in the agreement are set to commence in 2027, marking a pivotal moment in the city's commitment to safeguarding its residents and enhancing public safety.
