Israeli Transportation Minister Miri Regev has commenced her 16th journey, heading to Morocco for a special vacation. Accompanied by the Director General of the Ministry, Moshe Ben Zaken, the head of the Public Transport Authority, Idan Moalim, and her advisor, Regev's trip is expected to last until August 24. This marks her third visit to Morocco during her current term, highlighting the strengthening ties between Israel and Morocco.
Regev's departure occurred on Wednesday aboard the inaugural flight of the renewed direct route from Israel to Marrakech, operated by Arkia. This resumption of direct flights comes after a three-year hiatus, indicating a significant step towards normalizing relations between the two nations. The Minister's office has emphasized that while this trip is characterized as private, it symbolizes a broader initiative to foster connections under the Abraham Accords.
The visit coincides with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's tour of Ben Gurion Airport, where he interacted with airport staff and travelers. Regev joined Netanyahu, along with senior officials from the Airport Authority, to review operational activities and the efforts of thousands of employees dedicated to maintaining seamless service during the busy summer season.
In a statement released by the Minister's spokesperson, the renewal of direct flights to Marrakech is portrayed as a pivotal step in the ongoing journey towards normalcy and the enhancement of diplomatic relations between Israel and Morocco, following the framework established by the Abraham Accords.
