The specialized wings of the defense and aerospace industries are gearing up to showcase their latest technologies at the Marrakech Airshow 2026, scheduled to take place in Morocco from October 7 to 10. This event promises to bring together international companies, official delegations, and professionals from the aviation and defense sectors, making it a pivotal platform for technological exchange and industrial partnerships.
Among the anticipated exhibitors is the Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI), which has selected an extensive array of products for the exhibition. Innovative Missile and UAV Technologies on Display
One of the standout products that IAI plans to present is the "Lora" ground-to-ground missile system, designed for precise strikes on designated targets at long distances. According to specifications released by the company, the missile has a range of 90 to 430 kilometers, weighs approximately 1.6 tons, and measures around 5.2 meters in length. The "Lora" utilizes a guidance system that integrates satellite navigation with inertial navigation, enabling it to engage a variety of military targets, including command facilities, military infrastructure, and air defense systems. However, it is important to note that the presence of the missile at the exhibition does not imply any confirmed deal with Morocco, as the company has not announced any contracts regarding the system in terms of unit quantities, pricing, or delivery timelines.
Additionally, IAI is set to showcase the "Heron MK 2" UAV, which belongs to the category of medium-altitude long-endurance drones. Based on the technical data available, this UAV can reach altitudes exceeding 10.7 kilometers and fly at speeds close to 278 kilometers per hour, with an impressive endurance of up to 45 hours. The platform can be equipped with various reconnaissance and surveillance tools, including electro-optical sensors, radars, electronic reconnaissance equipment, and communication systems. However, the company has yet to disclose whether the version exhibited in Marrakech will include weaponry capabilities, leaving the specifications of the displayed model dependent on what the company will present at the event.
In the domain of command and control, IAI is preparing to unveil the "Opal NG" system, designed to enhance information flow between various platforms and units involved in operations. This system connects fighter jets, helicopters, UAVs, ships, and command centers within a unified network, facilitating the exchange of data and creating a common operational picture. Furthermore, the system supports the real-time transmission of voice, images, video, and data, and includes decision-support tools powered by artificial intelligence. IAI claims that "Opal NG" can be integrated with existing user data networks and communication systems, ensuring compatibility with several military communication standards.
The array of products showcased is not limited to military equipment; the Israeli participation also includes satellite communication solutions, technologies for converting passenger aircraft into cargo transporters, as well as maintenance, repair, and overhaul services. Through its presence at the exhibition, IAI aims to open avenues for industrial partnerships within Morocco, focusing on collaboration in technology transfer, knowledge sharing, and the development of local capabilities in the aviation sector. This diversity reflects a trend towards providing comprehensive solutions that address a wide range of needs within the aviation and defense sectors, spanning from missiles and UAVs to command systems, communication technologies, satellites, and technical services.
