Jardin de Poème in Rabat: A Celebration of Youth on World Poetry Day

The inaugural edition of the "Jardin de Poème" event is set to take place from April 30 to May 2, 2026, in Rabat, coinciding with the festivities surrounding World Poetry Day and the designation of Rabat as the World Capital of Books. This initiative, supported by various institutional and educational partners, aims to foster poetic creativity among youth and highlight emerging talents in the field of literature.

In Rabat, poetry is being embraced as a central theme in cultural activities with the launch of the "Jardin de Poème". This event is designed to promote both poetry reading and writing, aligning with the international recognition of World Poetry Day, which is notably supported by the House of Poetry in Morocco and national cultural authorities. Furthermore, it is part of the programming for "Rabat, World Capital of Books 2026".

Workshops to Nurture Young Talent

The agenda for this first edition spans two days and focuses on education and practical engagement. It will feature theoretical and practical workshops on poetry writing, specifically tailored for students and individuals over the age of 20 who are passionate about literature. These workshops aim to provide participants with essential tools for self-expression and to help them cultivate their artistic sensibilities.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit the International Book Fair, including a stop at the House of Poetry’s pavilion, where they can discover various publications and activities. The event will culminate in an open mic night, showcasing new voices in poetry. This closing session will allow participants to present their works to an audience, thereby recognizing and illuminating the next generation of poets.

Symbolic awards, including poetry collections and certificates, will be presented to participants to encourage their ongoing commitment to literary creation. Additionally, the evening will feature a tribute to the celebrated poet and zajjal Mourad El Kadiri, a prominent figure in Moroccan poetry and president of the House of Poetry. He will perform some of his works, along with reflections from poet Fatiha Nouhou on her artistic journey.

This event is organized with the support of the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, in coordination with the Al-Fath High School Parent Association. Notable artist Mohamed El Achraqi will perform contemporary Moroccan poetry, alongside Jamal El Ghiyouani, who will present his compositions inspired by the ghiyouan style.
