Jardin de Poème in Rabat: Immersing Youth in World Poetry Day

Jardin de Poème: A Celebration of Poetry and Youth

The inaugural edition of the "Jardin de Poème" event is set to take place from April 30 to May 2, 2026, in Rabat, coinciding with the global observance of World Poetry Day and the designation of Rabat as the World Capital of Books for 2026. This initiative, supported by various institutional and educational partners, aims to foster poetic creativity among the youth while highlighting emerging talents in the field.

Encouraging Poetic Expression Through Workshops

In the vibrant city of Rabat, poetry is taking center stage with the launch of the "Jardin de Poème" initiative, which aligns with the international recognition of World Poetry Day, championed by the Moroccan House of Poetry and national cultural authorities. The event is part of a larger program under the banner of "Rabat, World Capital of Books 2026," designed to promote the appreciation of reading and poetic writing.

This first edition spans two days and emphasizes both theoretical and practical aspects of poetic writing. Targeted at students and youth over 20 years old, the workshops will provide participants with essential tools for self-expression while nurturing their artistic sensibilities. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit the International Book Fair, where they can explore the publications and activities of the House of Poetry.

The event will culminate in an open stage night that spotlights young talents, allowing participants to present their works to the public, thereby acknowledging and celebrating the new generation of poets. Symbolic awards, including poetry collections and certificates, will be distributed to encourage their literary engagement.

Additionally, the closing night will honor the renowned poet and zajjal Mourad El Kadiri, who serves as the president of the House of Poetry and a prominent figure in the Moroccan poetic scene. He will recite some of his works, accompanied by reflections from poetess Fatiha Nouhou about her journey. The event, organized with the support of the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, in coordination with the Al-Fath High School Parents' Association, will also feature performances by artist Mohamed El Achraqi, who will interpret contemporary Moroccan poetry, and Jamal El Ghiyouani, who will present compositions inspired by the ghiyouan style.
