Jet Contractors Wins Major Contract for Hassan II Grand Stadium Station
A significant milestone has been achieved in the expansion of Morocco's high-speed rail network, as the Moroccan company Jet Contractors has been awarded the contract for the construction of the future train station at the Grand Stadium Hassan II in Benslimane. This contract is valued at 415.5 million dirhams excluding taxes, marking a substantial investment in the country's transport infrastructure.
The selection process, conducted by the National Office of Railways (ONCF), saw Jet Contractors outperforming several major players in the construction sector, including TGCC, SGTM, and Sogea Maroc. Although their bid exceeded the initial estimate of 410 million dirhams set by the project owner, Jet Contractors’ proposal was deemed the most advantageous based on technical and administrative criteria.
Strategic Importance for Upcoming Events
Situated near the forthcoming Grand Stadium Hassan II, the new train station is part of the preparations for the 2030 World Cup. This station is expected to play a critical role in the transportation network, facilitating rapid connections between the stadium and Morocco's major cities. With high-speed links via Al Boraq and regional express networks, travel times to Casablanca and Rabat are projected to be reduced to just 15 to 20 minutes. The station is designed to accommodate up to 12 million passengers annually, reflecting the anticipated influx, particularly during significant events.
The scope of the awarded contract encompasses a wide range of construction activities. In addition to the station itself, it includes the development of platforms, outdoor areas, and intermodal zones for drop-offs, taxis, and parking. Roadworks and various utility installations are also part of the project, alongside plans for commercial and landscaped spaces to enhance the site’s appeal.
The construction is expected to take approximately 24 months, contributing to a broader initiative led by the ONCF, which aims to build 24 new train stations, three technical centers, and nine maintenance stations across the country. This extensive plan aligns with the expansion of the high-speed rail line between Kenitra and Marrakech and seeks to modernize Morocco's rail transport offerings significantly.
