Jordan and Morocco Reiterate Commitment to Jerusalem's Status

This discussion was prompted by the alarming escalation of tensions in Jerusalem, specifically concerning the holy sites, which both ministers condemned due to what they termed illegal and provocative actions by Israeli authorities. The ministers emphasized the necessity of collaborative efforts to address these issues, reinforcing the longstanding partnership between Jordan and Morocco regarding the preservation of the status of Jerusalem and its sacred sites.
The dialogue highlighted Jordan's historical role as the custodian of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, a responsibility upheld by His Majesty King Abdullah II. Similarly, the role of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco as the chair of the Al-Quds Committee was recognized as a pivotal element in their cooperative efforts. Both leaders expressed their disapproval of recent incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque, which involved Israeli ministers and Knesset members, alongside extremist settlers, all protected by Israeli security forces. Such actions were viewed as serious violations that threaten the sanctity of the Al-Haram Al-Sharif compound.
Condemnation of Violations and Affirmation of Rights
During their conversation, Safadi and Bourita strongly condemned the ongoing systematic violations against worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque, asserting that these aggressions are not only morally reprehensible but also violate international laws and humanitarian principles. They reiterated their firm stance against any attempts to alter the historic and legal status quo of Jerusalem, emphasizing that Al-Haram Al-Sharif, including Al-Aqsa Mosque, remains exclusively a site for Muslim worshippers. Furthermore, they reaffirmed that the Jerusalem Awqaf Department, under Jordan's Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Places, holds the sole authority over the administration and access regulation of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
