The Republic of Kazakhstan has further strengthened its diplomatic presence in Morocco with the inauguration of a new honorary consulate in the vibrant city of Marrakech. During the ceremony, Younes Sassi, the CEO and founder of the Anfa Realty Group, was appointed as the honorary consul of Kazakhstan, with a residence in Marrakech. His role will involve close coordination with the embassy in Rabat to protect the rights and interests of Kazakh citizens residing in or passing through the Marrakech-Safi region. The newly established consulate is designed to facilitate connections between economic, institutional, cultural, and tourism stakeholders from both countries, encouraging joint initiatives and exploring new investment and partnership opportunities.
The Kazakh ambassador emphasized that the consulate's opening marks a new chapter in enhancing her country's consular presence in Morocco, indicating that this representation will significantly contribute to deepening bilateral cooperation and facilitating communication with the local economic fabric in the Marrakech-Safi region. Furthermore, the consulate is poised to play a pivotal role in supporting investors, promoting economic initiatives, encouraging cultural and tourism exchanges, and building direct links between Moroccan and Kazakh institutions and enterprises.
This consulate's establishment occurs amidst a notable evolution in Moroccan-Kazakh relations, which have been developing since May 26, 1992. This relationship saw a significant boost with the opening of the Kazakh embassy in Rabat in December 2020 and the implementation of a mutual visa exemption for national passport holders set to take effect in March 2025, allowing stays of up to 30 days. Additionally, the formation of the Moroccan-Kazakh Business Council further solidifies these ties.
The choice of Marrakech as the location for this new consulate is strategically significant, given the city’s status as a global tourist destination and a hub for attracting investments and international events, alongside its advanced role in enhancing trade and cultural exchanges.
