Inauguration of the Honorary Consulate in Marrakech
The Republic of Kazakhstan has officially inaugurated its Honorary Consulate in Marrakech, a significant development aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between Kazakhstan and Morocco. The ceremony took place on Wednesday and was attended by local and regional authorities, alongside notable figures from various sectors including economics, academia, and diplomacy. The occasion was presided over by Saulekul Sailaukyzy, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Morocco, who emphasized the consulate's role in enhancing the relationship between the two nations.
Role of the Honorary Consul and Strategic Importance
Younes Essassi, the CEO and founder of Anfa Realties Group, has been appointed as the Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan, with a specific focus on serving the Marrakech region. His responsibilities will include safeguarding the rights of Kazakh citizens living in or visiting Morocco and fostering connections among economic, institutional, cultural, and tourism stakeholders from both countries. Ambassador Sailaukyzy highlighted that the establishment of this consulate is a crucial step in expanding Kazakhstan's consular presence in Morocco, which will undoubtedly facilitate deeper bilateral relations. She noted the significant milestones achieved since the two countries established diplomatic relations on May 26, 1992, including the opening of Kazakhstan's Embassy in Rabat in December 2020 and the implementation of a reciprocal visa exemption for short stays starting in March 2025.
Essassi expressed his pride in taking on this role and is committed to leveraging his entrepreneurial expertise and understanding of the Moroccan market to foster collaboration between the two nations. The Honorary Consulate, located within the 'Les Villas d’Anfa Marrakech' project—Anfa Realties Group's first real estate venture in the city—will work in close alignment with the Kazakh Embassy to promote economic exchanges and establish new partnerships between Moroccan and Kazakh businesses.
