Kénitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail: A Major Infrastructure Leap Forward

The construction of the high-speed rail line linking Kénitra to Marrakech is rapidly advancing, marking a significant milestone in Morocco's transportation infrastructure. This extensive railway project is set to revolutionize travel within the country and is being meticulously developed in preparation for the 2030 World Cup. According to the National Office of Railways (ONCF), the project has entered a concrete phase with the ongoing construction of 92 road and rail bridges, and earthworks already surpassing 20 million cubic meters. In addition, teams are constructing fifteen massive viaducts and digging three covered trenches that span a total of one and a half kilometers, strategically located near Mohammed V Airport, Zenata, and Aïn Atiq.

Transformative Investments in Morocco's Rail Network

This direct extension of the Al Boraq network stretches over 430 kilometers and is part of the ambitious "ONCF Cap 2030" project, which comes with a staggering budget of 96 billion dirhams. Specifically, 53 billion dirhams are allocated for this new section, while 29 billion dirhams will be invested in purchasing 168 new trains and 14 billion dirhams will be dedicated to modernizing the existing rail network. The Casablanca rail hub is set for a major transformation, featuring a six-lane expansion between Mohammedia and Nouaceur and enhancements to over forty urban structures. Ultimately, the network will comprise 600 kilometers of electrified tracks, cutting-edge signaling systems, new stations, and nine maintenance centers. Once completed, this logistical revolution will enable travelers to journey from Tangier to Marrakech in just two hours and forty minutes, significantly boosting tourism and investment—an essential factor for the success of the upcoming World Cup.
