Kevin Benavides and Lisandro Sisterna's Close Call at the Morocco Rally
In a startling turn of events during the Morocco Rally, part of the W2RC World Rally Raid Championship, the Argentine duo of Kevin Benavides and Lisandro Sisterna experienced a high-speed flip while leading the race. The incident occurred on a fast section of the course near Zagora, where the pair was driving the formidable Toyota Hilux T1+ in the Ultimate category. Fortunately, both competitors emerged unscathed from what could have been a disastrous crash.
Describing the incident, Sisterna recounted to Campeones that their vehicle "hit a bump and flipped over." This event marked their second outing in the elite category, where they face off against some of the most legendary drivers in the Dakar Rally. Despite the chaos, the team had a strong start to the day, clocking impressive times early on. By the 15-kilometer mark, they were leading the pack, maintaining a remarkable pace that put them eight seconds ahead of renowned competitor Carlos Sainz, who was driving a Ford Raptor.
Following the accident, both Benavides and Sisterna assured fans and supporters that they were fine, with Sisterna summing up the experience by stating, "It was a hard hit, but we are okay." The day proved challenging for others as well, notably Yazeed Al-Rajhi, who announced he would not finish the stage in his Toyota from Overdrive Racing. Additionally, Qatari driver Nasser Al-Attiyah faced mechanical issues with his Dacia, managing to complete the stage only after being towed by his teammate, Sebastien Loeb, as they vie for the world title this year.
