Overview of the Fes-Meknes Regional Council Meeting

Additionally, the council ratified agreements to upgrade emerging centers in Ifran province, supporting local development, infrastructure improvement, and the enhancement of these centers' appeal. Furthermore, the council endorsed a partnership agreement to finance and implement an urban rehabilitation program for the city of Sefrou covering the period from 2026 to 2028, which includes structured projects aimed at infrastructure development, neighborhood rehabilitation, and public space enhancement. Furthermore, a specific agreement was ratified to create and enhance model markets across various provinces to organize commercial activities and foster balanced local economic dynamism. In a move to promote traditional industries and preserve artisan crafts, the council approved a specific agreement to establish a zone for traditional carpentry activities in the city of Meknes, contributing to improving artisans' working conditions and safeguarding this craft heritage.
Additionally, the council sanctioned a special agreement for the construction of a channel for the Fez River and the development of its banks, a project that serves both environmental and developmental purposes within the regional development program, aiming to enhance urban areas, preserve the ecological system of the Fez River, and increase the city's attractiveness. To enhance the region's prominence and its international outreach, the council ratified a partnership agreement with the Moroccan Regions Association to contribute to the organization of the eighth global conference of the United Cities and Local Governments (CGLU), reflecting the Fes-Meknes region's commitment to supporting territorial diplomacy and enhancing decentralized cooperation.
In the cultural sector, the council also approved partnership agreements aimed at supporting and organizing several cultural and artistic festivals within the region, recognizing the importance of culture as a fundamental element in valuing the region's cultural and touristic heritage.
