King Mohammed VI Celebrates Eid Al-Adha with Prayer and Sacrifice in Rabat

Royal Celebration of Eid Al-Adha

On May 27, 2026, King Mohammed VI, known as Amir Al-Mouminine, along with Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, Prince Moulay Rachid, and Prince Moulay Ahmed, participated in the Eid Al-Adha prayer at the "Ahl Fès" mosque located in Mechouar, Rabat. This event took place on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 in the Islamic calendar. As the royal procession made its way from the Royal Palace to the mosque, the atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm, as citizens gathered to express their heartfelt wishes to the King.

Religious Significance and Traditions

Following the prayer, the imam delivered a sermon highlighting the immense blessings associated with the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah, referencing the divine words: "By the dawn! And by the ten nights!" He recounted the poignant story of the Prophet Ibrahim and his son Isma'il, emphasizing the themes of sacrifice, selflessness, and generosity that characterize Eid Al-Adha. The imam concluded the sermon with prayers for the King, asking the Almighty to preserve his glory and to bless him and the royal family, including Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Prince Moulay Rachid. Furthermore, he invoked blessings for the souls of the late Kings Mohammed V and Hassan II, asking for their eternal peace under God's mercy.

Following the religious ceremonies, King Mohammed VI received congratulations from heads of Islamic diplomatic missions accredited in Morocco, who extended their warmest regards and best wishes to the Sovereign. In keeping with tradition, the King then engaged in the ritual sacrifice, echoing the practices of the Prophet Mohammed. The occasion was marked by celebratory cannon fire, heralding the joyous festivity of the day. The mosque's imam then performed the sacrifice of the second sheep, marking the completion of this significant ritual.

After the ceremonies, the King returned to the Royal Palace, where he received well-wishes from Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Prince Moulay Rachid. Additionally, he was greeted by the head of government, leaders of both chambers of Parliament, the President of the Higher Council of the Judiciary, the First President of the Court of Cassation, the Attorney General, and various esteemed civil and military figures, all joining in the Eid celebrations.
