King Mohammed VI Leads Religious Vigil for Laylat Al-Qadr

On the evening of March 16, 2026, King Mohammed VI presided over a significant religious vigil in Rabat, commemorating Laylat Al-Qadr, a night of great importance in the Islamic faith. The event gathered numerous dignitaries and members of the public, highlighting the spiritual significance of this revered occasion.

The vigil commenced with the Al-Isha and Taraweeh prayers, which are integral parts of the Ramadan observances. Following these prayers, the ceremony featured the conclusion of the recitation of the Sahih Al-Bukhari, conducted by Idriss Ben Daouia, the president of the local Council of Ulemas in Larache. This was complemented by a reading of the "Hadith Al Khatm" by Mustapha Zamehna, the president of the regional Council of Ulemas of Béni Mellal-Khénifra.

A remarkable moment during the vigil was the recitation of verses from the Quran by Zaid El Bakkali, a talented ten-year-old from Salé, who was honored with the title of the child memorizer of the Holy Quran by the King. This accolade underscores the emphasis on education and the memorization of the Quran in the community.

Furthermore, King Mohammed VI awarded several prestigious religious distinctions. The Mohammed VI "Ahl Al-Qurâan" and "Ahl Al-Hadith" awards were given to Ahmed Talha from Fes and Adnane Zhar from El Jadida, respectively. These awards recognize exceptional contributions to the understanding and dissemination of Islamic teachings.

In addition, the Mohammed VI awards for Quranic schools were presented in three categories, with Abdellatif Jalal from El Youssoufia awarded for methodology, Marzouk Ait Amran from Chefchaouen recognized for performance, and Abdellatif Ibouha from Chichaoua honored for management excellence.

Moreover, the King presented the Mohammed VI awards for the Adhan and Tahlil to Abderrahmane Benbakka from Marrakech for excellence and to Mohamed Battout from Mohammedia as an honorary recognition. The event was attended by the head of government, the presidents of both chambers of Parliament, royal advisors, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps from Islamic countries accredited to Morocco, senior officers of the Royal Armed Forces, and various civil and military figures, emphasizing the community's collective faith and unity during this auspicious occasion.
