On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced the official launch of 27 primary healthcare facilities in the regions of Fes-Meknes and Beni Mellal-Khenifra. This initiative coincides with the 27th anniversary of the Throne Day, following the completion of rehabilitation and equipping works for these establishments.
According to a statement from the ministry, the opening of these health facilities is part of the implementation of the royal directives aimed at reforming and enhancing the national healthcare system, thereby improving healthcare services and making them more accessible to citizens. The statement further emphasized that this initiative aligns with the national program to rehabilitate 1,600 primary healthcare facilities, including 500 to be completed in 2026, which supports the broader initiative of expanding social protection and improving the quality of primary health services.
The ministry noted that the healthcare offerings in the Fes-Meknes region have been significantly bolstered, with 25 primary healthcare facilities now in operation. In the Fes province, the urban health center of "Al-Masla" has opened, while the Meknes region has benefited from the opening of two urban health centers, "Al-Marjan" and "Um Rabee", in addition to the rural dispensary "Azra" beginning its services for the targeted population in the Sefrou province.
In Taounate province, 12 health facilities have commenced operations, including the rural health center level 2 "Wartzag", two level 2 urban health centers "Tissa" and "Taher Souq", and several level 1 rural health centers such as "Al-Ratba" and "Oudka". The region also sees the opening of additional rural dispensaries, which enhance healthcare access for the local population.
Furthermore, the provinces of Boulemane and Hajeb have seen the launch of five primary healthcare facilities, with Boulemane welcoming the level 1 rural health centers "Oulad Malouk" and "Al-Arjan", and Hajeb benefiting from the opening of the level 1 rural health centers "Iqdar" and "Ait Bourzwin" along with the rural dispensary "Boualozen". In Taza province, four new primary healthcare centers have opened, including two level 1 rural health centers and a level 2 rural health center, in addition to another dispensary.
In the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region, two rural dispensaries, "Sidi Mubarak" and "Al-Awinaat", have begun providing services to the local population. These healthcare centers, which represent a new generation of primary healthcare facilities, aim to enhance health service delivery at the regional level and bring healthcare services closer to the more than 317,574 residents they serve. They are designed to meet the increasing demand for healthcare services, improve access and quality, and enhance patient reception and guidance.
The statement concluded by highlighting that these healthcare facilities have been equipped with high-quality biomedical equipment and that a dedicated workforce of 125 health professionals will ensure the delivery of medical and nursing services. The services provided will cover a range of treatments, including general medical examinations, nursing care, chronic disease management—particularly diabetes and hypertension—as well as maternal and child health, school health, health education, and epidemiological vigilance, alongside mobile health services.
