Promoting Amazigh Culture and Cinema

According to Rashid Moutcho, the festival director, the primary objective of this festival is to promote Amazigh film and culture while fostering a space for dialogue among various cinematic expressions. The festival is set to run until October 5, offering a diverse selection of films across four main categories: the official competition for Amazigh films, the international competition, the national culture award for Amazigh film, and special non-competitive screenings.

This year, ten films that delve into themes of memory, identity, and social and cultural transformations are competing. The international competition sees participation from filmmakers representing countries such as France, the United States, India, Argentina, Egypt, and Italy. Additionally, the national culture award for Amazigh film, organized in partnership with the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture, features six films that highlight the dynamism of national cinematic production and its role in promoting Amazigh culture.

Moreover, five diverse cinematic works will be showcased in the special non-competitive screenings, providing audiences with the opportunity to discover a variety of films that open new avenues for expression and creativity. The program for this 17th edition, which is organized in collaboration with the Souss-Massa Regional Council, the Agadir municipality, and the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture, includes meetings between filmmakers and the audience, as well as the honoring of prominent figures who have significantly contributed to enriching the Amazigh cultural and artistic scene, recognizing their efforts in preserving and enhancing cultural identity.
