Legal Action Against Marrakech Hotel Following Fire Incident

A widow of a British man who tragically lost his life in a fire at a luxury hotel spa in Marrakech has filed a lawsuit in the United Kingdom's High Court, seeking damages exceeding £500,000. The incident, which occurred in March 2023 during a business trip to Morocco, resulted in the death of 48-year-old Anthony Barnes and another hotel employee.

According to court documents, Rachel Barnes, the deceased's widow, accuses the hotel of negligence, claiming that the fire alarm systems, smoke detection, and evacuation protocols were inadequate. She further alleges that the hotel’s surveillance cameras were malfunctioning and that the fire-fighting equipment was unsuitable for such emergencies. Additionally, the lawsuit asserts that the spa was constructed using materials with poor fire resistance and that emergency services were notified too late.

The incident has prompted local authorities to launch an investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor to examine the circumstances surrounding the fire before the deceased's body is repatriated to Britain.
