Legal Proceedings Against Notary Accused of Migrant Fraud

The Criminal Division of the Court of First Instance in Fes is set to commence hearings on Friday, April 10, regarding a notary from Meknes who is under investigation for alleged involvement in fraudulent schemes targeting individuals aspiring to migrate abroad. The accused had previously been sentenced to two years in prison along with other defendants, but new developments have prompted the reopening of additional cases that have been referred to public prosecution, including this specific case that is now scheduled for judicial review.

Investigations conducted by the Regional Judicial Police Brigade in Fes revealed that the criminal network attracted victims through false promises of securing employment contracts abroad. These promises were facilitated by an agency operated by the main accused, in exchange for substantial fees that could reach up to 50,000 Moroccan Dirhams. The contracts were then fraudulently notarized with the help of the implicated notary.

Prior security interventions led to the arrest of several individuals involved in cities such as Fes, Meknes, Sefrou, and Imouzzer, based on precise information provided by the regional directorate of territorial surveillance in Fes. During the search operations, various documents were seized, including fake employment contracts, receipts for financial transfers related to a large number of victims, as well as identification cards, passports, and electronic devices. The presence of stamps used in fraudulent activities highlights the extensive nature of this case and the significant number of affected parties.
