Clarification from the Public Prosecutor's Office
The Public Prosecutor's Office has issued a statement following a press conference held by a lawyer from the Bar Association in Fes concerning a complaint previously lodged by his client, who is currently serving a prison sentence. The statement indicates that, based on the details shared during the press conference, the Public Prosecutor's Office has become aware of new information related to the complaint that was not included in the original submission.
Investigation and Legal Actions
The Public Prosecutor's Office has expressed its intention to continue the investigation into the complaint in accordance with its legal powers, ensuring that appropriate legal measures are taken in light of the findings. It was noted that the individual, who was an inmate at the local prison of Ras El Ma, filed a complaint on June 23, 2025, through his initial legal counsel, accusing certain individuals of extortion and threats of imprisonment during the 2021 electoral campaign.
In response to the complaint, the Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation, with the Deputy Public Prosecutor visiting the prison on three occasions to interview the complainant and clarify his allegations while urging him to provide supporting evidence. During the first meeting on August 8, 2025, the complainant stated he was too exhausted to provide a statement. At the second meeting on August 11, he again refused to comment, citing a need to consult his lawyer before proceeding. Finally, on August 17, 2025, he declared that he would not provide any details regarding his complaint due to a hunger strike.
The Public Prosecutor's Office highlighted its immediate response to the complainant's claims, juxtaposed with his refusal to provide any statements or clarifications, raising significant questions about his intentions. Given the complainant's continued refusal to cooperate, despite multiple efforts by the Public Prosecutor's representative to gather information and document his statements, the investigation into the complaint was deemed contingent upon the complainant's willingness to substantiate his allegations with specific details and evidence.
As a result, on August 29, 2025, the Public Prosecutor's Office decided to temporarily archive the complaint due to the complainant's lack of desire to confirm his allegations. A notification regarding this decision was sent to the complainant, who refused to accept it.
Subsequently, on July 14, 2026, the complainant's attorney requested that the complaint be reopened. However, upon review of the request, it was determined that it lacked any new elements or evidence that would justify lifting the temporary archive, despite the opportunities provided to the complainant to present supporting documentation. Consequently, the decision to maintain the archived status was upheld, and the complainant was informed accordingly.
