Liberia Appoints Mohammed Adil Erradi as New Head Coach for Lone Star

New Era for Liberia's Lone Star

In a significant move aimed at revitalizing the national football team, Liberia has officially welcomed Moroccan coach Mohammed Adil Erradi as the head coach of the Lone Star. This appointment comes as part of a broader strategy to enhance the team's competitiveness and secure qualification for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The ceremonial signing took place at the Liberia Football Association (LFA) headquarters in Congo Town, attracting notable figures including senior government officials and LFA committee members who expressed their support for this new chapter in Liberian football.

LFA President Mustapha Raji highlighted the importance of governmental backing in finalizing Erradi's appointment, describing it as a pivotal step in the team's rebuilding process. He emphasized the favorable conditions as Liberia gears up for AFCON 2027 and World Cup qualifiers, expressing confidence in the government's commitment to supporting the Lone Star. Raji stated, "We are happy and feel well-assured of the national government’s commitment to supporting the Lone Star. With the help of our Mobilization Committee and the ministry, we are putting everything in place to ensure our coach has the tools to succeed."

Erradi's Vision and Commitment

During his first public address in English, Coach Mohammed Adil Erradi conveyed his enthusiasm and determination to rise to the challenge of rebuilding the Lone Star. He stated, "I am so happy to take this challenge. I have a lot of motivation to do something special with the Liberian national team. My goal is to make our national team as high as possible on the African continent." Erradi outlined a tactical philosophy centered on building a competitive team characterized by discipline and consistency, both at home and away. He stressed the importance of creating a formidable squad capable of not only winning at home in Monrovia but also performing strongly in away matches, which he believes is crucial for successful qualification.

Erradi paid homage to Liberia's rich football history, particularly highlighting the legacy of George Weah, the country’s revered Ballon d'Or winner. He acknowledged, "Liberia is a big country for football because it has a huge history in the world game. The best player who played for Liberia, George Weah, won the Ballon d'Or in Europe. It is a big thing, but it also brings an enormous responsibility." The coach assured that player selection would be strictly merit-based, having conducted extensive scouting over the past few months. He emphasized his comprehensive knowledge of the players, stating, "I know our players one by one. For three months, I have followed every player—overseas and in Liberia—tracking the minutes they play, the positions they play, and their form. The players who deserve their position will play."

Erradi's selection criteria will focus on four essential attributes: versatility, mental strength, physical fitness, and leadership. He argued that modern football demands adaptable players who can fulfill various roles, exhibit resilience under pressure, maintain peak physical condition, and possess leadership qualities that can inspire their teammates. Reinforcing his philosophy, the new coach reiterated that team cohesion is paramount, stating, "The most important thing is the team, not individual stars. We must choose a responsible, competitive profile—players who will give everything for the national colors. If we work hard, stay responsible, and believe, we can achieve this goal together." With this new technical leadership, Liberia embarks on a renewed journey towards qualification for AFCON 2027, buoyed by governmental support and high hopes from the football community.
