The acting Foreign Minister of the Government of National Unity in Libya, Taher Baour, has received a significant invitation from Egypt to participate in the sixth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development. This invitation coincides with another from Morocco for Baour to attend the signing ceremony of an African agreement concerning the disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration of child soldiers.
The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced that the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdel-Aty, extended this invitation to Baour for the Aswan Forum, which is set to take place on November 21 and 22, 2026, in the city of Aswan. This year’s forum is themed "Re-defining Common Global Values: Africa's Active Role in an Era of Disturbance," and aims to gather senior officials, representatives from regional and international organizations, financial institutions, the private sector, academia, and civil society, all working towards enhancing dialogue and cooperation in areas of peace, security, and sustainable development.
The upcoming sixth edition of the forum will tackle crucial topics such as sustainable financing, regional integration, infrastructure development, food security, energy security, climate change, job creation, artificial intelligence, and the enhancement of the private sector's role. These discussions are pivotal in supporting the objectives of the African Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals, as they aim to strengthen African cooperation in addressing economic, security, and developmental challenges.
In a separate diplomatic initiative, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, has also invited Baour to take part in the official signing ceremony for the African agreement on the disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration of child soldiers. The signing ceremony is scheduled for September 23, 2026, at the permanent mission of Morocco to the United Nations in New York, coinciding with the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly.
Furthermore, Baour has received a letter of gratitude and appreciation from the Omani Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al-Busaidi, in response to an invitation extended to him to visit Libya. The Omani Foreign Minister expressed his eagerness to visit Libya, which he referred to as his "second home," at the earliest opportunity, emphasizing his commitment to continue working towards enhancing and developing bilateral relations between Libya and Oman. Al-Busaidi noted that strengthening ties between the two nations reflects the deep-rooted connections and mutual respect shared between the brotherly countries. In closing his letter, the Omani Foreign Minister reiterated his thanks and appreciation for the invitation, wishing the Libyan state and its people continued stability, prosperity, and success.
