Ben Yahya, who has known the vendor for over forty years, described him as a reclusive individual living alone, and noted that there have been previous instances of what he termed "unusual behavior" on the vendor's part.

Despite this background, Ben Yahya stressed that the vendor must be held accountable for his actions, which should not be viewed as a reflection of the broader community of vendors at Jemaa el-Fnaa. He pointed out that while some foreign visitors sometimes highlight negative behaviors within the city, these incidents should not tarnish the reputation of Marrakech or the iconic square, which is known for its vibrant atmosphere and diverse offerings.
