Lockheed Martin's Role as Platinum Sponsor at Marrakech Airshow 2026
Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) is set to make a significant impact at the Marrakech Airshow 2026, scheduled from October 7 to 10, where it will participate as a platinum sponsor. The event will showcase advanced defense technologies and provide a platform for engaging Moroccan companies in discussions about future defense program collaborations. Prior to the airshow, an Industry Day will be held on October 6, featuring representatives from Morocco’s Ministry of Industry and Trade. This event aims to brief potential suppliers from across Morocco on the qualification requirements and to explore manufacturing opportunities with Lockheed Martin.
Steve Sheehy, the vice president of international business at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, emphasized the longstanding partnership with Morocco, stating, "For more than 50 years, we have worked alongside Morocco to support its defense requirements. As that partnership grows, we want Moroccan companies to play a greater role in our global supply chain. Our Industry Day is a practical step toward identifying suppliers with the expertise to contribute to current and future programs, while our sustainment partnerships help build the skills and capacity to maintain aircraft closer to home." This initiative underscores Lockheed Martin's commitment to enhancing local capabilities and fostering meaningful partnerships.
Exhibitions and Technological Demonstrations
During the airshow, Lockheed Martin will feature an F-35 cockpit demonstrator, allowing invited guests to experience fifth-generation airpower through live demonstrations. Additionally, scale models of the F-35A, F-16, and C-130J Super Hercules will be on display. The presence of a U.S. Air Force C-130J and Royal Moroccan Air Force F-16s on the flight line will facilitate discussions about the future of Morocco’s tactical airlift capabilities. The C-130J, in particular, represents a modern solution for military transport, humanitarian relief, and disaster response, building on the Royal Moroccan Air Force's extensive experience with Hercules aircraft.
Furthermore, a full-scale exhibit of the Sniper Networked Targeting Pod will complement the aircraft displays. Lockheed Martin will also showcase systems such as the Javelin and the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), alongside scale models of the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement interceptor and Extended Range Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System. These exhibits will fuel discussions on airpower, precision strikes, and air and missile defense, while also highlighting the integration of platforms, sensors, and command systems to enhance operational coordination against evolving threats. This focus aligns with Lockheed Martin’s 21st Century Security® approach, aimed at ensuring that defense capabilities remain ahead of potential challenges.
The partnership between Lockheed Martin and the Royal Moroccan Air Force, which commenced in 1974 with the delivery of the first C-130H Hercules, has evolved significantly over the decades. The introduction of F-16 Block 52 deliveries in 2011 marked another milestone in this collaboration, which now extends to aircraft sustainment and industrial development initiatives. Notably, a strategic partnership announced in 2022 is working towards enhancing aircraft maintenance expertise and infrastructure within Morocco, further solidifying the nation's position as a regional hub for aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul.
