Luis de la Fuente Highlights Historic Potential of World Cup 2026

Spanish Coach Luis de la Fuente Names World Cup Favorites

Luis de la Fuente, the head coach of the Spanish national football team, has made a significant statement regarding the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. He described this tournament as "historic," emphasizing that it features a remarkable number of teams with genuine chances of clinching the championship title. In a press conference held on Wednesday, de la Fuente enumerated the contenders he believes are capable of triumphing in the tournament, which include powerhouses such as Germany, England, Portugal, France, the Netherlands, Argentina, Brazil, Senegal, Morocco, and of course, Spain.

De la Fuente confidently asserted, "I haven't left anyone out. I presented a range of teams, and if someone believes that any of these cannot win, they likely do not fully understand the footballing potential of these sides." He concluded his remarks by expressing his belief in Spain's capabilities, stating, "We feel capable of competing, but as you can see, we have strong rivals on our journey." This highlights the competitive nature of the upcoming World Cup, where Spain aims to make a significant impact.

In preparation for the World Cup, Spain is set to play a friendly match against Iraq on Thursday at 4:00 PM in La Coruña. Following this, they will face Peru on Monday, August 8, in Puebla, Mexico. The Spanish team will make their World Cup debut on the 15th against Cape Verde, followed by a match against Saudi Arabia on the 21st, and they will conclude Group H with a face-off against Uruguay on Friday, the 26th, in Guadalajara.
