Coordinated Operations Target Drug Trafficking in Morocco
In a significant crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, law enforcement agencies from various Moroccan cities, including Ait Melloul, Marrakech, Casablanca, and Rabat, conducted a series of coordinated operations on the evening of Monday and into the early hours of Tuesday. Collaborating with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, these operations aimed to dismantle networks involved in the illicit trade of drugs and psychotropic substances. As a result of these efforts, several suspects were apprehended, and substantial quantities of prohibited materials were seized.
The first operation took place in Ait Melloul, where authorities arrested a nationally wanted individual caught red-handed in possession of drugs while driving a vehicle with forged license plates. A search of the vehicle led to the confiscation of a staggering one ton and 538 kilograms of cannabis, along with 218 kilograms of smuggled tobacco.
The second operation occurred in the rural area of Knaan Zemamra, located near Qal'at al-Sraghna. Here, law enforcement intercepted a utility vehicle occupied by two individuals, one of whom was the subject of multiple national arrest warrants. This operation yielded 476 kilograms of cannabis, 105 kilograms of contraband tobacco, as well as 700 grams of cocaine and 1.7 kilograms of hashish. Additionally, authorities discovered an unlicensed hunting rifle and 13 cartridges.
In the third operation, security forces managed to seize a total of 737 kilograms of hashish after stopping a utility vehicle at the Bouskoura toll station. The vehicle was driven by an employee of a rescue organization, accompanied by two others, and contained 137 kilograms of hashish. Ongoing investigations led to the discovery of an additional 600 kilograms stored in a warehouse in the rural area of Bouanania, near Safi.
The fourth operation involved the arrest of an individual on a motorcycle in the city of Temara, caught in the act of drug possession and distribution. Following a search conducted at his residence in Benslimane, authorities confiscated 900 tablets of the narcotic drug Rivotril, 30 grams of cocaine, and 1.07 kilograms of hashish.
All suspects apprehended during these operations are currently undergoing judicial investigations under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutors. This effort aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding these cases and to reveal any potential extensions of these criminal activities.
The simultaneous nature of these security operations highlights the ongoing commitment of Moroccan authorities to eradicate sources of drug trafficking and psychotropic substances, while enhancing field coordination and intelligence to pursue the involved parties and dismantle their criminal networks.
