Major Drug Smuggling Attempt Foiled at Marrakech Airport

Security Forces Intercept International Drug Trafficking at Marrakech Menara Airport

On Thursday, April 16, 2026, national security forces stationed at Marrakech Menara International Airport successfully thwarted an international drug smuggling attempt, resulting in the arrest of three travelers holding foreign nationalities. According to available information, stringent border monitoring and heightened security vigilance led to the detection of suspicious indicators in the luggage of the individuals involved. This occurred during their bags being subjected to the X-ray scanning process, prompting a thorough inspection.

The inspection revealed a concealed stash of 10 kilograms of "shira" cannabis, cleverly hidden within the suitcases in an attempt to evade security measures within the airport. Following this discovery, the suspects were taken to the airport's specialized security services, where legal records regarding the incident were prepared. They were subsequently referred to the judicial police of the Marrakech Security Directorate for further investigation to uncover potential links to this criminal operation.

Under the directives of the competent public prosecutor's office, the detainees were placed under provisional detention pending the completion of ongoing investigations and their eventual appearance before the judiciary. This operation underscores the commitment of security forces to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety of the public.
