Algerian Authorities Strike a Major Blow Against International Drug Trafficking
The Central Service for the Fight Against Illicit Drug Trafficking (SCLTIS) has successfully dismantled a large organized international drug trafficking network, leading to the seizure of over 10 million psychotropic capsules and more than 33 kilograms of cocaine. This operation, described as the most significant of its kind by the National Security Directorate (DGSN), highlights the ongoing commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat narcotics trafficking and drug lords.
According to an official statement released on Thursday, the operation was a culmination of extensive intelligence work initiated by SCLTIS investigators back in January of this year. Their efforts uncovered the dangerous criminal activities of an organized international network operating in the western regions of the country. The investigation identified Moroccan drug lords and their accomplices, who were being sought by Algerian justice, as the orchestrators of this illegal activity. They reportedly coordinated their operations from Morocco, leveraging associates in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) for managing and transferring funds and revenues derived from these illicit activities, as well as other accomplices in France.
Following the identification of network members and the tracking of shipments originating from the southern provinces, and with the support of the Special Operations Group (GOSP), simultaneous arrests were executed in several provinces including Oran, Tizi Ouzou, Algiers, Blida, and Tipaza. This decisive action led to the apprehension of 25 individuals involved in the criminal organization, which included one woman and a foreign national.
Conducted under the supervision of the relevant prosecutor's office, this operation resulted in the seizure of products valued at nearly 1 trillion centimes, comprising 10,400,000 capsules of pregabalin-type psychotropics, 33.4 kg of hard drugs (cocaine), and 19 vehicles of various types, including a semi-trailer truck and three motorcycles, all utilized in the network's criminal activities. Additionally, law enforcement confiscated over 1.5 billion centimes generated from these criminal revenues. The suspects were presented before the public prosecutor on August 20, 2026, as part of the legal proceedings.
