In a significant operation aimed at ensuring food safety, the Royal Gendarmerie of Ifrane has successfully seized substantial quantities of unidentified food products stored in three clandestine warehouses in the city of Fes. This action was undertaken under the direct supervision of the relevant public prosecutor's office, highlighting the authorities' commitment to safeguarding public health.
The operation was initiated following routine surveillance conducted by the gendarmerie, which led to the interception of a freight truck carrying a considerable load of food items. Upon inspection, it became evident that the cargo lacked any documentation to verify its source, and it failed to meet the established health standards for transportation and storage.
Following directives from the public prosecutor, the truck driver was detained, and a judicial investigation was launched. During questioning, the driver revealed that the goods were being transported from one of the warehouses in Fes. This revelation prompted investigators to locate the primary storage facility.
Field investigations led authorities to three secret warehouses, where, in coordination with local authorities, they executed a raid on the first facility. The inspection uncovered tons of food products stored under unsanitary conditions, characterized by dampness and dust, along with the absence of essential documentation and invoices for a significant portion of the goods.
Continuing their inquiries, authorities identified two additional warehouses in the heart of Fes. After obtaining the necessary legal permissions, these facilities were also raided, and their contents were cataloged before a decision was made to seal them as part of the ongoing judicial investigations.
According to consistent reports, the seized items include a wide array of consumer products, estimated to weigh several tons, most of which are of unknown origin and lack information regarding production or expiration dates. A portion of these goods was found stored in conditions that did not meet even the most basic hygiene and ventilation standards, posing a direct threat to consumer health if they were to be sold in markets.
Investigations are continuing under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor to identify all potential parties involved in this case and uncover the entities responsible for distributing and marketing these hazardous food products.
