Significant Upgrades for Fes Stadium in Preparation for the 2030 World Cup
The Fes Sports Complex has officially entered a new phase of renovations as Morocco gears up to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. The National Agency for Public Equipment has initiated an open international tender for the first phase of the stadium's upgrade, which encompasses extensive demolition and major construction works. This includes the installation of insulation, metal structures, cladding, suspended ceilings, carpentry, and painting, all aimed at enhancing the stadium's facilities.
The financial estimate for this substantial project is approximately 2.816 billion dirhams, with a temporary guarantee set at 40 million dirhams. Bids for the contract are set to be opened on September 22, 2026, at the temporary preparation offices for the Fes stadium.
Fes Stadium: A New Project Following Previous Upgrades
This latest round of renovations comes on the heels of the stadium's reopening in June 2025, following an earlier project that lasted around 13 months and focused on restoration and modernization in anticipation of hosting matches for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025. However, the requirements for hosting the World Cup necessitate a more comprehensive set of upgrades, as outlined in the new program. The goal is to elevate the facility to meet the standards set by FIFA, ensuring that it is fully equipped for the global event.
