Marrakech Air Show Unveils Significant Investments

The Marrakech Air Show 2026 concluded recently with a flurry of announcements that promise to reshape the aerospace landscape in Morocco. Following an inaugural day focused on industrial research and partnerships with leading global manufacturers, the subsequent day shifted its attention towards production projects, culminating in substantial investments and commitments to job creation. Notably, five industrial agreements were forged, with three investment protocols involving the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE), and various aviation operators.

Major Projects and Employment Opportunities

Among the highlights of the event, Matis Aerospace emerged as a significant contributor, anticipating the creation of 750 direct jobs by enhancing its capabilities in manufacturing aeronautical electrical wiring through an investment of approximately 16.457 million dollars by 2030. Similarly, Mecapole Aerospace & Defense is set to invest 10 million euros, resulting in 80 new direct jobs dedicated to precision machining for aircraft and helicopters. Furthermore, APS Coating, a company specializing in surface treatment, has outlined plans for an 18 million euro investment aimed at establishing a dedicated unit for aeronautical parts, which is expected to generate 120 direct jobs. Collectively, these three initiatives account for nearly 470 million dirhams in announced investments, signaling robust growth within the sector.

Additionally, two further agreements broaden the scope of industrial partnerships, with one involving AMDIE, the Moroccan Aerospace and Space Industries Group (GIMAS), and South Korean manufacturer Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to explore collaborative industrial opportunities. The second agreement encompasses a partnership among American ND Defense, Moroccan MZ Automotive, and Polish Demarko, focusing on military mobility, specialized vehicle integration, and logistical solutions for heavy equipment.

Notably, the air transport sector was also impacted by a recent agreement between Royal Air Maroc and Boeing aimed at modernizing the cabins of seven Boeing 787-8 aircraft. This renovation project includes replacing seats, upgrading entertainment systems, and installing Starlink internet connectivity, aligning these aircraft’s offerings more closely with newer long-haul fleet models.

Moreover, on October 7, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) announced a consortium agreement for the Africa Center of Manufacturing Excellence (ACME). This initiative, in collaboration with various industry leaders, aims to facilitate joint efforts in the development, testing, and industrialization of new manufacturing technologies, further enhancing Morocco's technological capabilities.

As Morocco looks to bolster its aerospace industry, the emphasis will now be on realizing these announced projects and advancing industrial skills towards more complex activities. The Marrakech Air Show 2026 stands as a testament to Morocco's commitment to positioning itself as a key player in the aerospace sector on a global scale.
