Marrakech Commits to Enhancing Social Welfare with New Initiatives
On July 24, 2026, the province of Marrakech made a significant stride towards social development by signing five collaborative agreements amounting to over 3.18 million dirhams. This funding is aimed at financing various projects focused on health, social inclusion, and youth employment, all under the framework of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH). These agreements were formalized during the meeting of the Provincial Committee for Human Development (CPDH) in the Marrakech prefecture, emphasizing the region's commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents.
The most prominent agreement involves the rehabilitation of the Semlalia Addiction Treatment Center, which is allocated an investment of 1.9 million dirhams. This initiative brings together key stakeholders, including the Wilaya of the Marrakech-Safi region, the Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection, the Prefectural Health Delegation, and the Baraka Idman association. It is part of the INDH program aimed at providing support to vulnerable individuals within the community.
Additionally, another agreement was established between the Wilaya, the Regional Coordination of Entraide Nationale, and the Thamarat association for Craft Creativity, aimed at upgrading equipment at their center with an investment of 200,000 dirhams. This project focuses on enhancing the capabilities of local artisans and promoting their economic participation.
In line with the economic empowerment of youth, two additional agreements were approved to support job-generating initiatives. The first project will enhance a light catering establishment with a budget of 126,000 dirhams, while the second will finance the outfitting of a café for 112,000 dirhams. These initiatives are designed to stimulate local employment opportunities and foster entrepreneurship among young people.
Moreover, to bolster the human capital of the younger generations, authorities signed a contract to equip the maternity unit of the M’hamid proximity hospital with a provision of 850,000 dirhams. Aziz Makhlouf, the Regional Director of Health and Social Protection, noted that the two health projects—the rehabilitation of the addiction treatment center and the outfitting of the maternity unit—will significantly enhance healthcare services, improve patient care conditions, and bring medical services closer to the population.
Souad Zaghloul, the head of the Social Action Division of the Marrakech-Safi Wilaya, emphasized that these agreements reflect the participatory approach of the INDH. They aim to improve care for vulnerable individuals, expand access to basic services, and promote economic inclusion for youth. These projects are part of the continued efforts under the National Initiative for Human Development in the Marrakech prefecture, aligning with the high directives of King Mohammed VI to foster sustainable human development through initiatives that have a direct and lasting impact on the benefiting population.
