Marrakech Police Arrest Three Individuals for Illegal Drug Trafficking
In a concerted effort to combat the promotion of illegal pharmaceutical products, law enforcement agencies in Marrakech executed two separate operations on the evening of March 16, resulting in the arrest of three individuals aged between 22 and 33. These arrests came about due to suspicions of their involvement in the marketing of smuggled medications potentially harmful to public health.
The operations were triggered by the national police's cyber vigilance unit, which had detected advertisements circulating on social media platforms promoting smuggled pharmaceutical products purportedly intended to facilitate abortion procedures. Subsequent technical investigations and field inquiries enabled authorities to identify the suspects involved.
The first operation led to the apprehension of a private security guard within a public hospital, caught red-handed with expired medical tablets dating back to 2018. This individual was allegedly marketing these expired drugs under the guise of their use in abortion facilitation. A search of his residence yielded 166 tablets of the aforementioned products, along with 1,968 units of various medications and pharmaceutical materials.
In the second operation, two other suspects were arrested in Marrakech while found in possession of 21 medical tablets claimed to be used for the same purpose. The search also uncovered two mobile phones suspected to have been utilized to facilitate this illicit activity, as well as a sum of money believed to be proceeds from their criminal endeavors.
The suspects have been placed under police custody while an investigative process is underway, supervised by the relevant public prosecutor's office, to uncover all circumstances surrounding the case and identify any additional potential accomplices. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend all individuals connected to these illicit activities.
