Marrakech Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Pharmaceutical Trafficking

In a significant effort to combat the illegal promotion of pharmaceutical products, law enforcement in Marrakech successfully executed two separate operations on the evening of Monday, March 16. These operations led to the arrest of three individuals aged between 22 and 33 years, suspected of being involved in the marketing of smuggled medications that pose a serious risk to public health.

These proactive measures were initiated following the monitoring activities conducted by the National Police's cyber vigilance unit, which identified advertisements circulating on social media platforms. These ads promoted the sale of illicit pharmaceutical products, falsely marketed as aids for facilitating abortions. Through technical investigations and field inquiries, the authorities were able to identify the suspects involved.

The first operation resulted in the arrest of a security guard at a public hospital, caught in the act of possessing and distributing expired medical pills, which had not been valid since 2018. He was promoting these pills under the pretense that they were used to assist in abortion procedures. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered 166 expired pills, along with 1,968 units of various other pharmaceutical products.

In the second operation, two additional suspects were apprehended in Marrakech while actively promoting 21 medical tablets claimed to serve the same purpose. The search conducted on their premises resulted in the seizure of two mobile phones, suspected of being used to facilitate these illegal activities, as well as a sum of money believed to be proceeds from these criminal actions.

The suspects are currently being held under judicial custody as part of an ongoing investigation supervised by the relevant public prosecutor's office. This investigation aims to uncover all aspects of the case and identify any additional individuals who may be involved in these illicit activities. Meanwhile, authorities continue their inquiries to apprehend anyone else connected to these offenses.
