Marrakech Hosts the 2026 African CIO Awards

The vibrant city of Marrakech became the epicenter of technological innovation as it hosted the 2026 African CIO Awards (ACA) on April 7 and 8, coinciding with GITEX Africa. This prestigious event brought together public decision-makers, information systems directors, start-up founders, and digital experts from 16 countries across Africa and Europe.

Recognizing Leaders and Innovations in AI

Now in its third edition, the African CIO Awards has established itself as the premier platform dedicated to recognizing the achievements of Chief Information Officers and innovators throughout Africa. Spearheaded by CIO Mag, a publication that originated in Marrakech two decades ago, this event has grown into a vital gathering that honors the leaders, projects, and organizations that are shaping the future of digital technology and artificial intelligence on the continent.

With the support of Morocco's Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform and in partnership with GITEX, the ACA aimed to highlight impactful technological initiatives and promote responsible, inclusive innovation that aligns with Africa's economic and social challenges. A total of 56 applications were reviewed, representing a diverse range of start-ups, public institutions, and large corporations. Several high-impact initiatives were honored for their contributions to sustainable and responsible innovation across Africa.

Among the main winners of the 2026 awards, AI Crafters (Morocco), SPIRAW (Tunisia), and ASIN – the Agency for Computer Systems and Digital (Benin) took home the Grand Prize. Additionally, the 'IA for Good' category recognized IT Global Services (Morocco) and the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights (Ivory Coast), among others. Sectoral awards were given to ANIP in healthcare, EDUKIA in EdTech, KOP in Future of Work, and GUPPY in Fintech.

As the African CIO Awards continue to evolve, they serve as a strategic platform for sharing experiences and showcasing African innovations in artificial intelligence and digital transformation. Mohamadou Dialo, the founder of the African CIO Awards and CIO Mag, emphasized the importance of this event, stating that it highlights the vitality and creativity of the African digital ecosystem. Through the awards, the goal is to uncover talent, connect stakeholders, and accelerate the adoption of beneficial and responsible innovations that create value for the continent.
