New Initiative to Ease Financial Burdens for Convicts
The Court of First Instance in Marrakech has announced an exceptional measure aimed at reducing penal fines for convicted individuals. This initiative is part of the Ministry of Justice's efforts to facilitate the collection of public debts effectively.
According to an official announcement, this provision is grounded in Article 634-1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, allowing those convicted to benefit from a reduction of up to two-thirds of the imposed fine, provided they adhere to specific legal conditions.
The announcement further clarified that to qualify for this benefit, the fine must be paid within a maximum of 30 days, starting from the date of the court's ruling or from the date of notification of judgments rendered in absentia or considered as present.
However, it is important to note that this reduction does not apply to certain public debts, including:
- Confiscated funds
- Compensations owed to the public treasury or third parties
- Fine refunds
- Court expenses
- Contributions to the guarantee fund
This measure is designed to encourage convicted individuals to voluntarily settle their financial obligations within the legal timeframes, thereby contributing to the expedited enforcement of judicial rulings and alleviating the burden of collection procedures.
The announcement, signed by the head of the Court's registry in Marrakech, has been disseminated to stakeholders and professionals for their awareness and compliance.
