Legal Consequences for Social Media Influencer in Morocco

The Marrakech court has recently made headlines by sentencing the well-known content creator, referred to as "Kalamor," to ten months of imprisonment and imposing a fine of 500 dirhams. Alongside these penalties, she is also prohibited from using social media for a period of three years. This ruling came after the initial session of her trial held on Monday, August 17, 2026, during which she was remanded in custody and taken to the local prison in Oudaya due to charges related to content published on digital platforms.

The prosecution decided to pursue legal action against Kalamor based on her involvement in acts deemed to disrupt public decency, following the dissemination of videos and segments from live broadcasts that were considered to contain content contrary to public morals. The Moroccan National Security forces detained her at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca while she was attempting to leave the country. This arrest was coordinated with local authorities in Marrakech, leading to her being subjected to judicial investigation and subsequently handed over to the public prosecutor, who opted to continue proceedings with her in custody.

This judgment from the Marrakech court reflects the legal system's stance on upholding public decency laws and managing the responsibilities of influencers and content creators in the digital space. The implications of this case extend beyond the individual, as it raises critical discussions about the guidelines governing social media usage and the broader impact of online content on society.
