Marrakech Court Imposes Strict Penalties on Social Media Influencer
In a significant ruling delivered by the Marrakech court on Monday, August 17, 2026, the well-known content creator, referred to as "Kalamour," has been sentenced to ten months of active imprisonment. Additionally, she has been fined 500 dirhams and barred from using social media platforms for a period of three years. This ruling follows her trial's inaugural session, where she was held in custody and placed in the local Ouedaya prison due to charges linked to content she disseminated across digital platforms.
The Public Prosecutor's office decided to pursue legal action against Kalamour based on actions that were legally characterized as a public violation of decency. This stemmed from the dissemination of video clips and excerpts from a live broadcast that were deemed to contain content contrary to public morals. Law enforcement officers at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca apprehended her as she attempted to leave the country, coordinating with Marrakech security services. Following her arrest, she was subjected to judicial inquiry and subsequently referred to the Public Prosecutor's office, which opted to proceed with charges while she remained in custody.
The court's sentence reflects the severity of the actions attributed to Kalamour, including the stipulated prison term, financial penalties, and her prohibition from engaging in social media usage for a legally defined period of three years. This case highlights the ongoing scrutiny and legal ramifications surrounding digital content creators in Morocco, particularly regarding the boundaries of acceptable content in public discourse.
