Marrakech Court Delivers Verdict in Disturbing Case of Teacher Misconduct
The Criminal Chamber of the Marrakech Appeals Court has handed down a significant sentence to an Islamic education teacher, imposing eight years of imprisonment alongside a fine to the civil plaintiffs. This ruling comes after the court deliberated on the case, taking into account the final statements from the defendant as well as testimonies from the victims who endured assault at the hands of their teacher.
The troubling events unfolded in the region of Chichaoua, near Marrakech, when gendarmerie forces referred the case to the public prosecutor's office, following suspicions surrounding the teacher's involvement in the sexual assault of two students at his residence. It was reported that the teacher, who worked at an educational institution in the commune of Mojat in Chichaoua province, misled the parents of the students by claiming he was offering them extra lessons.
The decision to prosecute came after the teacher spent time in police custody, where he was subjected to an investigation regarding the allegations of assault against the two students. The case emerged following a complaint lodged by the parents of the victims, who accused the teacher of sexually assaulting their children.
Sources indicate that the teacher exploited the extra lessons as a means to lure the two students into a compromising situation. One of the minor victims confided in a parent, prompting them to file a complaint, which led to the teacher's arrest and subsequent detention for further investigation. Authorities are now determining whether there are additional victims in this alarming case.
