Marrakech's Booming Tourism Sector

The city of Marrakech is solidifying its status as the premier tourist destination in Morocco, having recorded over 6.05 million overnight stays in classified accommodation establishments by the end of May 2026. This marks a remarkable growth of 10% compared to the same period last year. According to data from the National Tourism Observatory, Marrakech captured 33% of the total overnight stays registered nationwide during the first five months of the current year, underscoring its continued allure to both Moroccan and international tourists.

By the end of May, the occupancy rate for classified accommodation in Marrakech reached 72%, maintaining the same level observed during the same period in 2025. In May alone, the city recorded more than 1.3 million overnight stays, reflecting a 9% increase compared to May 2025, with the occupancy rate hitting 78%. This trend illustrates the ongoing dynamism of the tourism sector in the city.

National Tourism Performance

On a national level, the number of overnight stays in classified accommodation reached 18.1 million by the end of May 2026, registering a 9% increase compared to the same period last year. The national occupancy rate also saw improvement, reaching 56%, which is a one percentage point increase year-on-year, indicating a positive trend in the performance of the tourism sector across the kingdom.
