Marrakech High School Directors Intensify Protests Over Administrative Delays
In a significant escalation of their ongoing grievances, the National Association of Public High School Directors in Morocco, specifically the Marrakech regional office, has announced a series of protests aimed at addressing what they describe as a "policy of deafness" by the educational authorities regarding their pressing demands. This decision follows a regional council meeting that took place on August 10 and 11, 2026, where the directors expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of response to their previous requests.
In a statement released on August 12, the association reiterated its commitment to a range of urgent demands articulated in a prior declaration from July 14, 2026. The directors emphasized the continued execution of their responsibilities under dire conditions, which they believe negatively affect the operational efficiency of educational institutions, despite the considerable efforts and sacrifices made by the educational administration staff.
The Marrakech office has outlined several urgent requirements, foremost among them being the acute shortage of human resources within educational administration. They demand immediate action to address this critical staffing gap, as well as the provision of essential equipment, supplies, and office materials. Furthermore, they are calling for the prompt release of outstanding financial entitlements owed by the regional and academic directorates, especially concerning exam-related transport reimbursements and geographical mobility allowances, alongside payments tied to delayed obligations from the second half of 2025 and the first half of 2026.
According to their statement, the ongoing failure to fulfill promises and commitments has compelled the regional council to undertake several protest actions. This includes a collective withdrawal from various digital communication groups associated with the regional directorate, such as the "Marrakech Directorate - Secondary Education" group and the "Pioneering Colleges" project groups, in addition to extracurricular activity groups and services for students in training and sports centers.
Moreover, the association has resolved to boycott meetings, particularly those associated with school year preparations scheduled with educational authorities. This decision represents a further step in their protest strategy as they continue to grapple with unresolved issues that are deemed urgent and directly linked to the operational conditions of educational administration.
In line with their protest actions, the regional office has planned a one-hour demonstration in front of the regional directorate on the day the school year entry protocols are signed, starting at noon. The association concluded its statement by reaffirming its dedication to uniting and advocating for the dignity and rights of public high school directors in Marrakech, urging authorities to intervene promptly to resolve the issues raised and avert further unrest within educational institutions as the new academic year approaches.
