Marrakech witnessed a significant milestone on Tuesday with the launch of an integrated initiative aimed at digitalizing the traditional crafts sector. This initiative coincides with the fourth edition of the "GITEX Africa Morocco" exhibition, taking place from April 7 to 9. It is part of a strategic roadmap set forth by the State Ministry responsible for traditional crafts and the social and solidarity economy, in partnership with the "Dar Sani" organization. The primary objective is to enhance the competitiveness of the sector and improve its overall performance.
This initiative is rooted in the implementation of a memorandum of understanding signed in May 2025 with major players such as Mastercard, the Central Popular Bank Group, and M2T. It focuses on integrated digital solutions designed to facilitate electronic transactions. Among the highlighted technologies are App to App and SoftPOS, which allow for payment acceptance via smartphones. The system also encompasses services for installation and maintenance, enabling remote payments, including online transactions, thereby accelerating the inclusion of traditional craftsmen into the digital economy.
The accompanying training and support program aims to bolster the digital skills of traditional artisans and enhance their presence on digital platforms. Participants will gain access to modern tools that include artificial intelligence and e-commerce technologies. During the event, speakers emphasized that digitalization in this sector is no longer a secondary option; it has become a crucial lever for financial integration and market expansion, particularly in the context of the rapid digital transformations occurring worldwide. Notably, the "GITEX Africa Morocco" edition is expected to attract around 50,000 participants and 1,450 exhibitors from 130 countries.
